Pikes Peak Marathon USA is Replaced with the CHIEMGAU TRAIL RUN

CH-CH-CH-CH-CHANGES! TURN AND FACE THE CHANGE!”

GOLDEN TRAIL WORLD SERIES ANNOUNCEMENT

Pikes Peak Marathon USA is Replaced with the CHIEMGAU TRAIL RUN Germany

In light of the continuing health pandemic and complications for Europeans to enter USA territory, the GTWS has decided to replace Pikes Peak Marathon this year with a European race – as Americans have no restrictions for travelling to Europe. Pikes Peak Marathon will however remain in this year’s new Golden Trail National Series USA/CANADA 2021.

From Ron Ilgen – Pikes Peak Marathon’s race director, “I fully understand the complications linked to travelling to the USA at this time and, although obviously disappointed, I am thrilled to be hosting the Golden Trail National Series.”

2021 REPLACEMENT

The CHIEMGAU TRAIL RUN figures in this year’s brand new GTNS GER/AUS/CHE, and they are very excited to have the honour of hosting the GTWS 2021. Here are the race details:

Date: 4th September 2021 Distance: 43KM Vert +/-: 2,757M

Situated in stunning South-East Bavaria (Germany), caressing the Alps and with the spectacular “Bavarian Sea” Lake Chiemesee in full view throughout, the race route loops over two mountains – Hochplatte and Hochgern – providing 2,757m vertical climbs, fast rolling sections and technical downhills.

As a GTWS qualifying race the prize money of course remains unchanged, respecting the minimum limit imposed by the GTWS: €1000 for the top 5 women and men.

The elite athletes’ invitation system is identical to the Pikes Peak Marathon:

The GTS invites the top 10 women and men from the Golden Trail Championship 2020 to all the races they would like to run, under the condition that they pre-register at a minimum of 3 races in the GTWS 2021. Additionally, the GTS will cover the athletes’ invitations below, under the condition that they pre-register at a minimum of 3 races in the GTWS 2021:

For all races

– An athlete who finishes in the top 10 of one of the races has an invitation to run in another race in the series. For the Ring of Steall the runner must have participated in 2 previous races.

– An athlete who finishes in the top 20 of one of the races receives a free race bib for another race in the series. For the Ring of Steall the runner must have participated in 2 previous races.

Additionally, for the Chiemgau Trail Run: The top 10 of the overall ranking after Sierre-Zinal 2021

TO REGISTER for the Chiemgau Trail Run an e-mail has been sent to all athletes, if you did not receive the e-mail, and you are participating in two other GTWS races, we invite you to contact us here contact@goldentrailseries.com as soon as possible!

WHY REPLACE & NOT CANCEL THE RACE?

Many athletes had planned the Pikes Peak Marathon into their race calendar – the other race dates or course profiles did not correspond with their racing requirements; we didn’t want to lose their participation for the entire series and we wanted to provide maximum options for all. The Chiemgau Trail Run is 43km, which provides an equal balance with the season’s short fast races (Olla de Nuria, Dolomyths, Ring of Steall) and longer races (Marathon du Mont Blanc, Sierre-Zinal, Chiemgau Trail Run). Secondly, we saw at Olla de Núria that the runners were thrilled to discover a new place and new race route, and we have no doubt that the Bavarians will cheer and encourage the runners as enthusiastically as the Catalans did!.
