The Golden Trail Championship (GTC) will take place alternatively with the Golden Trail World Series from 2021 every-other year. Starting in 2021 with the GTWS, the next GTC will take place in 2022.
1. THE CHAMPIONSHIP MECHANISM
Everyone can participate in the GTC even if the runner did not take part in a Golden Race² or Golden Segment³ in the limit of race bibs available and at his/her personal expense. However to secure a race bib and get his expenses covered, the runner can try to win a Golden Ticket¹.
The GTC is one single event, a 3-4-day stage race.
At the end of the stages, an overall ranking is established, and the Golden Trail Champion is the one with the lowest cumulated time of all the stages.
There are also awards distributed per specialty:
GT Climber Champion: cumulated time of all the stages’ uphill-climb sections*
GT Downhiller Champion: cumulated time of all the stages’ downhill sections*
GT Sprinter Champion: cumulated time of all the stages’ sprint sections*
There are also awards distributed per stage (daily):
– Stage Winner
– Stage Best Climber: on only one specific climb
– Stage Best Downhiller: on only one specific downhill
– Stage Best Sprinter: between 1 and 2km per stage anywhere on the course
*To win a section the runners must cross the finish line in a certain position which will be determined in function of the density of elite runners.
A specific bib will be given after the first stage and for the following stages to the overall leaders (yellow bib), overall climb leaders (red bib), overall downhill leaders (blue bib), overall sprint leaders (green bib). If a runner is leading several classifications, he/she naturally only wears one bib: the one designated by the order of priority:
1. yellow bib 2. red bib 3. blue bib 4. green bib
The other bibs are then worn by the runner lying 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the corresponding classification.
A Golden Ticket (Gtk) is a ticket that provides the runner: free race bib, travel expenses*, accommodation & meals.
A Golden Ticket is nominative and cannot be transmitted to anyone else. It can only be used by the runner who won it. A runner can only win one Golden Ticket, the first one would have been won chronolog-ically.
A Golden Pass is a Golden Ticket given directly to certain runners. These runners do not need to win one at any of the golden races or segments. Golden Pass holders are the following:
– The TOP 11 GTWS from the previous year.
– The TOP 3 from the GTNS GRAND FINALE from the previous year
A Golden Race (GR) is a race where there are golden tickets to win. The runners must register themselves to these races.
On the GTC year, the 6 GTWS qualifying races will become Golden Races with some Golden Tickets to win.
The number of Golden Races is undetermined and aims to be at least one per country, and in more than 20 countries.
The number of Golden Tickets per Golden Race will be determined at least 9 months prior the GTC.
Where there is not a a Golden Race, a Golden Segment could be organized instead. It is a loop timed on an application (such as Strava) with a digital ranking. They will be open during a determinated time.
The runners must submit their run in the 24H following their attempt.
Runners taking part to these segments run at their own risk and have to ensure they have all the necessary equipment, including a mobile phone to run them
There is only one category for each: overall male and overall female.
