Famous for his technical skills, Anders Kjaerevik is running tomorrow at the Stranda Fjord Trail Race, on home ground. He might be confident about being able to bag a top 10 place, but he’s more interested in highlighting the importance of having a Golden Trail World Series stage to be able to promote trail running in Norway.
In 2020, during the Golden Trail Championship, Anders Kjaerevik won the Best Downhiller title. It must be said that the Norwegian is used to technical, slippery, and muddy descents. Tomorrow, during the Stranda Fjord Trail Race, he will be able to show off his passion and talent. "The race is a bit short for me, he admits, because I’m used to longer races, but it’s very technical, especially with the current weather. If I don’t do anything stupid tomorrow, I think with the downhills in the rocks and mud I can manage a top 10 position."
Promoting trail running in Norway
When we asked him what it meant having the GTWS in Norway for the first time, Anders Kjaerevik is clear-cut: "It’s a very good thing! When I saw there was going to be a stage in Norway, I couldn’t believe it. Trail running isn’t very popular here, the focus is on cross-country skiing, yet we have very good runners – just look at Stian Angermund. But few runners will try going up against the best Europeans because logistically it’s complicated and they don’t have time to manage the trips. I think having such an event with top runners will put trail running in the spotlight and help to grow the sport here. I hope the Golden will stay for a few more years especially as we have some of the most perfect terrain for it!"

Un œil sur la ligne de départ révèle de grands absents : les têtes d’affiche de la première étape – l’Ergysport Trail du Ventoux – n’ont pas fait le déplacement jusqu’en Bretagne, à l’exception de Enzo Ratti (Esprit Volcans - 10e au Ventoux) et Anthony Boucard (Team Moonvalley - 18e).
