GTWS : RÉMI BONNET ET MAUDE MATHYS PORTENT LES ESPOIRS SUISSES À SIERRE-ZINAL

Les deux coureurs suisses Rémi Bonnet et Maude Mathys font partie des favoris sur l’une des courses les plus mythiques du monde.

Elle détient le record de la course, lui est considéré comme le meilleur grimpeur du circuit, Maude Mathys (team Salomon, Suisse) et Rémi Bonnet (team Salomon / Red Bull, Suisse) portent les espoirs nationaux chez eux en Suisse. Ils reviennent pour nous sur leurs débuts de saison et leurs ambitions pour Sierre-Zinal, et de manière générale sur la Golden Trail World Series. 

 

Maude Mathys : « Je veux gagner ! » 

 

Son début de saison a été perturbé par une blessure au tendon d’Achille, ce qui ne l’a pas empêché, pour autant, de décrocher une très belle seconde place derrière Nienke Brinkman (team Nike Trail, Pays-Bas) à Zegama. Maude Mathys estime pourtant qu’elle n’aurait pas pu faire beaucoup mieux en Espagne. « La course était un peu longue pour moi et Nienke était vraiment costaude, je ne pense pas que j’aurais pu faire beaucoup mieux même sans blessure, donc aucun regret ! » Si la douleur n’a pas complètement disparu depuis Zegama, Maude se sent quand même beaucoup mieux et place beaucoup d’espoir en Sierre-Zinal. « L’objectif est clair : je veux gagner ! Je vais tout faire pour aller chercher la victoire et si en plus je vois que je suis sur les temps du record à la fin, je donnerai tout ce que j’ai pour aller le chercher. » Pour autant, sa préparation n’a pas été optimale et Maude Mathys le sait, le niveau féminin est exceptionnel cette année sur la GTWS. « Je ne cours qu’une fois par semaine pour ménager mon tendon, confie-t-elle. J’ai fait 90 % de mes entraînements à vélo. Mais je me sens en forme malgré tout. Le niveau est impressionnant chez les filles cette année, le sport se professionnalise ce qui fait que le niveau monte et je ne peux pas me reposer sur mes lauriers. Je me méfie bien sûr de Sara Alonso – même si je ne sais pas comment elle a récupéré de la Norvège – d’Anaïs Sabrié qui est toujours sur mes talons, ou de la Kenyane Joyce Njeru qui vient de battre le record de la montée du Nid d’Aigle. Et puis il y a la petite nouvelle, Sophia Laukli, elle m’a impressionnée en Norvège et on verra si elle peut faire quelque chose ici… » 

 

Rémi Bonnet : « LA course que je rêve de gagner ! »

 

Lui non plus n’a pas connu un super début de saison. Malgré une belle course à Zegama – où il finit 7e– Rémi Bonnet a dû abandonner au Marathon du Mont-Blanc à cause de problèmes gastriques. « Je sais que tous les débuts de saison sont compliqués en trail quand je fais la Patrouille des Glaciers à la fin de la saison de ski, explique-t-il. Mais je pense honnêtement que je me sens mieux maintenant. » Le Suisse s’est d’ailleurs spécialement entraîné pour Sierre-Zinal, même s’il sait que la présence de Kilian Jornet complique forcément la donne. « Je sais que lorsque Kilian est là ça laisse peu de place aux autres, sauf à sortir la course de ta vie. Après, il est humain et peut avoir une défaillance. Sierre-Zinal c’est LA course que je rêve de gagner un jour, donc je vais faire ma course et donner tout ce que j’ai. » Quand on lui parle du reste du plateau 2022, Rémi Bonnet préfère d’ailleurs se focaliser sur lui. « Je vais faire ma course ! Je sais que je suis bien entraîné et on verra. C’est sûr qu’on ne sait jamais ce que ça peut donner avec les Kenyans ou un Petro Mamu dans un grand jour mais il faut déjà que je donne le meilleur de moi. J’ai vu qu’il y avait Hassan Chahdi aussi. Je trouve ça courageux qu’il vienne se montrer sur un trail aussi relevé, avec un tel plateau pour une première en trail. Mais je pense que la première bosse va vite le calmer… Après ça se trouve il va tous nous mettre d’accord, qui sait ? » Quant au reste de la saison, le Suisse préfère voir course par course. « Je vais aller faire les courses aux États-Unis car la montée de Pikes Peak est clairement LA course qui correspond à mon profil cette année (21 km d’ascension pure entre 1900 et 4300 mètres d’altitude). Je veux montrer à tout le monde que je suis l’un des meilleurs grimpeurs du circuit et je vais donc aller faire de l’acclimatation en altitude après Zinal pour être à 200 %. »
